Easy to dock, but construction could be better August 31, 2010 Chelle Swanson (New Mexico) So you get the docking cradle in the mail, and your first thought is: "That's it? There's no switches, no documentation, no warranty"? The fact is, this device doesn't take a rocket-scientist to figure out how it works, and a warranty for a power source, particularly one this cheap, is a bit silly. It's simple and neat, and the blue back-light is a nice aesthetic feature. However, if you like to sleep in a pitch-dark room (like I do), it is slightly annoying that there is no off switch.
It's easy to plant your kindle in the docking station, but when you take it out, you'd better have both hands free so that you can hold down the dock, and pull up on the Kindle at the same time. Otherwise, I would suggest going to the store and buying some heavy-duty, double-sided tape or Velcro strips to dock the docking-station!
The last point I have is not the fault of the makers of this product, but it bears mentioning that this product will not work with the original Kindle, nor the third generation of Kindles now being sold, making this a one-trick pony. Still, if you have a Kindle 2, and you'd like to have an easy plug-in at night, this is your gadget. If I were making the decision to buy again, I would probably still do it, even with these limitations.
Product appears to have been redesigned August 29, 2010 Sean Malloy The blue light mentioned in other reviews appears to have been removed; I cannot find any visible indicator that the Kindle is drawing power. An elegant solution would be to add a cutout on the front and a recess to the left of the connector where a piece of Mylar or other reflective plastic could be mounted to make the Kindle's own charging light visible from the front of the stand; that would give a light showing that the Kindle is receiving power, as well as whether it is charging or fully charged.
The stand is a nice size, holding my Kindle 2 in a convenient position for reading when I am sitting at a desk; if I were using it as a recipe display while cooking, I think I'd want to be able to tip it back some. I have had a problem with my Amazon USB cable where the outer insulation is cracking near the two connectors, as if the plastic/rubber is losing its flexibility and cracking under the bending stress; the cable included with the stand appears to be better designed to spread the stress out, rather than concentrating it at each plug; time will tell -- I've had my Kindle 2 over a year, and the cracking problem only developed a month or so ago. I do agree with other reviewers, though, that the cable should terminate in a micro USB plug, rather than a mini USB plug, so that the cable could be used to recharge a Kindle without using the stand.
Overall, I'm happy with it; it holds my Kindle at about the same angle that I would brace it against one of the uprights on my computer desk so I can look at it and read while I'm waiting for material to load or download on the Net.
sleek and styish! August 24, 2010 L. Silva (TORONTO, Ontario CANADA) Wow! I'm glad I came across this product for my K2. It holds my Kindle securely at the perfect angle so I can read while I'm sitting at the table. No more propping up my K2 against the sugar bowl! It takes up very little room, unlike most other Kindle holders that I've seen. It would be very easy to slip into my purse and take on the road. The only drawback is that the cord is too short for me to sit at the table using it, while simultaneously charging it (using a wall outlet). Fortunately, I use this item strictly to prop up my Kindle to read, not to charge or connect it to my PC. (The cord detaches from the cradle.) I'm very happy with this item and would recommend it to other K2 owners.
cradle of love August 19, 2010 Edward P. Alfortish (denham springs, louisiana) at first i was unsure about buying this item. boy, was i proved wrong. when you want to charge your kindle, you just put it in the dock cradle and that is it. no worry. after using the cord that comes with the kindle a few times, it becomes loose and gets a sloppy fit. i had to wiggle it and bend the cord to get it to charge. ugh! then when i unplugged it, my kindle would shut down and restart. know how much fun that was finding the book i was reading and then getting to the page i was last on? HORRIBLE! since using the dock,(THANK YOU GOD)my kindle is exactly on the last page i was on.WOOHOO! this is the best purchase i have ever bought for my beloved kindle.
Great choice August 11, 2010 "L" Avid reader (L.A.,CA) This is a great little gadgit. I keep it on my nightstand and when I settle in for the night I simply set my kindle on the stand. It charges for the night and props it up for my reading convenience if I choose to read until I fall asleep. It's also proves to be a visible reminder to pick my kindle up in the morning on my way out. The convenient size was good for carrying on my most recent trip, where I plugged it up on the Hotel nightstand with no problem. Its a cute and useful little item to have.
