A little bigger, a lot higher capacity July 1, 2010 andy17null I'm happy with this battery. I expected to see shoddy workmanship on the battery or back case but both look and feel professional. I can use my G1 for about 6-8 hours of heavy use now, and still have 4 hours or so of standby time on low usage. The case does not have a bump in the back. There is no glass covering the camera, just a hole.
Great, but the replacement back isn't top-quality May 24, 2010 Gaurav Kumar 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I ordered this battery because of how cheap it was as a replacement for my original G1 battery, which was puffing up. It's amazing as a battery, because it lasts for over 2 days now, if I don't mess with my phone, and exactly two days under heavy usage. However, my only concerns are with the replacement back given to accomodate the larger battery. Mine arrived with a hairline crack on the side, which I glued up with some epoxy, and it's fine now. It also doesn't perfectly fit the G1 nearly as snugly as the original back, and the volume and camera buttons are a bit more difficult to press because the new back is vertical near the buttons, rather than curved near them as the old back was. The biggest flaws, though, is the lack of a clear piece of plastic in front of the camera lens to protect from dust, and the lack of the little dot of plastic that ensures the loudspeaker is never completely against the surface the phone is resting on. That little half-millimeter of space really makes a difference in ringtone volume. The size addition of the back is not an issue for me, because the phone still fits in the stock G1 sleeve (albeit snugly) and is much easier to hold onto while the phone is open. In addition, I've heard that there's two versions of the back being shipped out: one that looks like the G1 is simply a half-centimeter thicker, and one that molds to the shape of the battery sticking out. Personally, I'd have preferred the molded one, because the flat back (which I have, and which is pictured) has air pockets behind the parts of the phone that aren't touching the battery, and it's noticeable how those parts of the extremely thin back flex when pressed even a bit. It simply makes the phone feel much more flimsy than earlier. In conclusion, I think the capacity is wonderful, but the terrible part is the gosh-darned back. If given the choice, I'd have gone with the 1600 mAh battery, because that one offers slightly larger capacity than the stock battery, while retaining the stock back.
Awesome! May 17, 2010 Adam L. Fowler (Irvine, KY USA) First off, the bad news.
It's big. Like, srsly big. My phone looks a bit goofy because of how large it is.
Now, the good.
DOES NOT MATTER. Size isn't an issue here really, personally, it feels a bit better to text on with the extra size.
Furthermore, this is a GREAT purchase for your phone. I run my G1 OC'd while battery is < 25% and it doesn't even get down half way after a day or two. Another note, I run wifi at all times, and it STILL keeps pumping.
In short, the batter is big. BUT, it's big for a reason ;]
Great, great purchase.
This is the G-1 saviour! May 3, 2010 Jordan Beherndt (San Jose, CA) I can go home from work on Friday afternoon and still have a bit of battery left on Monday morning when I get back to charge it!! This is amazing..I was so sick of always charging my phone. People say it makes the phone bigger or bulky and it does but whatever...the people complaining about it are probably the same idiots that spend an extra $500 on an electronic device only because its sleek and small. Its not bad, especially considering the massive benefit.
Makes the phone usable May 3, 2010 O. Moskalenko (Fort Collins, CO United States) T-Mobile G1 phone is simply not very usable without this battery as it may require charging every 3-4 hours depending on the usage. With this battery it's possible to use the phone for a full day or two depending on the usage patterns. The battery does make the phone twice as thick, but it's actually more comfortable for people with large hands. The cover is flimsy and prone to coming off it the phone is pressed against something while in a pocket or a bag and the camera lens gets very dusty. However, the drawbacks are far outweighed by the increase in battery capacity. Highly recommended.
