Well worth the money June 11, 2010 Jacquesone (Chicago Il United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this machine before reading the reviews. After I did get it home I came to Amazon and read some of the reviews and I was tempted to take it back. However the time limit for returns expired before it could do so. (30 days at OfficeMax).
So I opened the package and started using the dictionary. From the very beginning until this day almost every word I have looked up has been in it. Additionally the examples associated with the definitions have helped me immensely.
I am in intermediate Spanish student and I have no idea why anyone would speak negatively about this product or put this dictionary down. I like it a great deal and would recommend it to anyone who has ordinary expectations from a dictionary or who is learning Spanish as a begining or intermediate student.
I work hard for my money and I am very careful as to how I spend it. I am very satisfied with this purchase and would definitely buy again if something happened to this one or if I lost it. It is easy to use and serves my purposes very well.
Wonder!!! June 3, 2010 Carl C. Schaeffer (Altadena, CA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a wonderful electronic alternative to big bulky books. I have been quickly able to look up words in an instant. One of my favorite features is a corrections automatic feature, similar to "Did you mean..." on internet search engines. Cant spell in English, so it is a real treat to have. I was a little put off at first by one of the reviews about how the person was looking for an abridged dictionary and that the Franklin 1500 was just for high schoolers and they were going to have to give it to someone els because its inferior, bla bla bla. Well I am glad I did not listen to them because its one of the best little investments I have made. Good luck!

I recently purchased these three products. All work well as expected and shipping time was normal.

Functional and easy to use, keyboard/screen need improvements May 9, 2010 brystler 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm learning Spanish so I can only assume the translations are accurate. For now I am using it as I work through the Rosetta Stone courses and it has most (but not all) of the words I type in. It recognizes most of the conjugated words. It is handy and easier to use than a paper dictionary. I like how it makes suggestions if I mistype a word. The keyboard can be slow and doesn't always readily recognize the letters I've typed. The screen can be difficult to read in low light. The screen needs to be brighter and easier to read. All in all I've enjoyed using it, I've just learned to work past its shortcomings.
I like that I can type in the conjugated words and it recognizes them. The paperback Websters New World dictionary isn't as convenient.
Screen damage after one week May 6, 2010 Kenneth L. Elkins 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
The Franklin DBE-1500 worked great for a week and then the screen
"smudged" which is apparently a problem with the Franklin.
The screen is not covered under the warranty. I have owned several
Franklin Spanish translators without experiencing problems over the past
ten years. I just ordered two more, but not the DBE-1500. I feel lucky
to have only one loss during the ten year period.
I'm curios why Franklin excludes the Screen from warranty?
